Hymns are described by some people as the most important aspect of music in church. Hymns provide a congregation with a way to engage with the word and worship taking place through singing. As such, the range of abilities of singers varies enormously. As church musician, what you do, what you select, how you play and so on are vital in supporting a congregation in their praise. So it can be easy to overlook the value of hymns and worship songs, but they really are important.
